pros of NTL/telewest, you get cheaper phone calls and you get cable TV.
cons - may not be able to install you (they are supposedly
'oversubscribed' in several places..eg Nottingham)
pros of BT? Well, I cant really think of any.
cons? installation charges..non refundable if they have issues with your
line etc
if they werent capped? They aint gonna do that...its capped and capped for
good. they want to control the horizontol and the vertical. you can
probably PAY to get the extra bandwidth you should be having?
anyway, okay, ADSL is pretty much at its limit, there is the faster SDSL
(better uplinking, buts thats really for server-class (ie business) folks)
cable modem should be able to get more than 30Mbits/s , its great
technology. i never expect to see that here in the UK though....even the
basic 2MBits/s is being snubbed for their 'attractive/competitive' rate of
512K/s, damn them!! If only there were a higher number of literate folks
to push this technology (over stateside its mainly the gamers who demand
all this access speed...and thanks to their online forums they know WHAT
to ask for and who offers it in their vicinitys

LOL!! ah. its not the computer, its the device used. IF the supplier
doesnt opt for custom software/hardware then you should be able to plug a
basic ethernet card in your Amiga (eg with PCMCIA) and then just access to
the cable/ADSL converter. however i see lots and lots of USB solutions
coming out. yes, we should have this with AmigaOne (if drivers for such
things can be done) but it means no for classic Amiga (yet to see any USB
hardware converters for these machines)
of course, the best way it just take some really old, worth only 10 quid,
486 box with USB . slap a copy of Smoothwall onto it and then connect that
to the Amiga with ethernet. not only does it do the 'custom solution ->
standard interface work for you, but its also a nice firewall to protect
your ass on that high bandwidth hacker-delight/scipt-kiddie land
